Developing the Nose Work Team for NW1, NW2 (or equivalent) & Beyond.

  • Ensuring that the foundational experiences, fun and motivation stay strong
  • Handlers will gain additional understanding of trial readiness and what that really means

Description of workshop:
This working seminar is designed to accommodate up to 10 working teams + auditors. We will work through a variety of exercises to help handlers and their k9 partners coalesce their skill to optimize performance. Utilizing search debriefs Jill Marie will strive to enhance the handler’s understanding of the search environment and their dog’s ability to function optimally within the presenting search parameters. Analyzing performances and applying the learning to future searches can be a critical piece in improving outcomes in the trial environment.
Training levels for working teams:
This seminar day’s working spots are open to dogs at the early phases of nose work development. Dogs should be training on all 3 nose work odors and have an understanding of basic search concepts.

Day 2 – Sunday August 7th, 2022

Honing Your K9 Nose Work® Skills-Take your team to the next level.

Learning Objectives:
  • Build understanding of when to step in and be a more involved handler without killing your dog’s independent searching vs. following the dog’s lead and staying out of the way
  • Enhancing your dog’s independent problem-solving skill while managing handler expectations
  • Knowing when to move past a problem or allowing the dog to stick with it…BUT THE TIME IS TICKING…
  • HAVE FUN!!!

Dogs should be training on all applicable ACSW odors (NACSW odors) and be at a trialing/training level of NW2 or above or equivalent experience.
