Lesia is a Certified Nose Work Instructor (CNWI™) and has been instructing in the Sydney region with K9 Nose Time Pty Ltd since 2014. Her first introduction to the sport was through Marion Brand, who was the founder of K9 Nose Time and had just begun classes in Castle Hill. Lesia’s second puppy, Ranger, had just come along and was a highly reactive dog. This new sport was a great outlet and motivator and enabled her to continue training him. She found it helped Ranger’s confidence while feeling safe and engaged his natural instincts perfectly. She was hooked from that first class and has been at the forefront of education, training and competition in the sport in Australia ever since. Lesia is a judge and Certifying Official for Australian Canine Scent Work (ACSW™) trials and competitions. She took over running K9 Nose Time in the middle of 2020 from Marion Brand and has over 20 classes per week that caters to over 100 handler and dog teams each term, while supporting new instructors through experience and education.
Lesia and her husband Michael, live in Sydney with their two much-loved Border Collie’s – Syrah and Ranger. So, it’s no wonder working dogs hold a special place in her heart. She has fostered countless puppies and been involved in the re-homing of them and is an active member of the rescue group, Dogs4Jobs. She has a very diverse education and working background. She completed a Postgraduate in Emergency Management and worked in research and data for a number of health projects at Sydney University and Western Sydney Hospital. She has also worked in hospitality, management and training. When Lesia isn’t spending time with dogs you might find her reading, hiking in the bush or looking after what she would consider as the most underrated bird, her quail. But obviously her passion for K9 Nose Work® is what has led her to be a full-time instructor today and her hope of sharing that love of the sport with the dogs and handlers that need it the most.
