Odours used: Birch, Anise and Clove
Teams: Teams are made up of two dogs. Teams can have 1 handler or 2 handlers.
The Search: Each dog has X min (to be advised) to find as many hides as they can. Only one dog runs at a time. Your team needs to find X% of the hides to pass. You will get a 30-second warning.
What if one dog finds X% and the other dog doesn’t find any? Both dogs/teams still pass and each dog will get their Scent Detectives ribbon.
Can you watch your teammate and their dog run? If you have two handlers you are encouraged to watch your teammate run and can communicate along the way.
How many teams can play? Max 10 teams (20 dogs).
How much is it to run? Entry per team (2 dogs) will be $46
What Level do the dogs have to be? Any level can play, as long as they are on Birch Anise and Clove.
What will be in the search area? Could be anything! Its Scent Detectives!

What is scent detectives?
Scent Detectives are fun games designed for K9 Nose Timers (and friends) that focus on some of the key foundations we build when starting out in the sport. Each of our dogs has different skills and styles of searching, which skill does your dog excel at? Which one could you use a little more training at? Come and find out!
You can run the level 1-3 games in a number of different ways: please note you can not run the highest level ‘ Scent Detective’ as an unknown search.
- You can use this as a training exercise and know where the hides are.
- You can run it ‘blind’ and be eligible to get a ribbon if you pass.
Other things to note:
- The judge will go over the rules for each game at the start line.
- You may watch other teams if you have their permission.
- You can video and photograph.
- There is no walk-through
