Alison Woolcott, CNWI

Alison is a Certified K9 Nose Work Instructor – CNWI – and works part-time at K9 Nose Time

In 2014 Alison heard about K9 Nose Work ® however, due to work commitments, it took quite a few years before she was able to get into classes. In the meantime, Alison helped coordinate a Nose Work Workshop for her breed club, which then led onto finding classes she could attend with Instructor’s Rachel Lawler (taking her dog Rafferty) and then Lesia Burford, (taking dogs Kira and Rafferty). “The joy my dogs showed in going to class each week got me hooked, I love that Nose Work is a ‘dog driven’ activity with so much ongoing learning to be had”

Alison started the CNWI Course in 2019, which led on to instructing at K9 Nose Time® and in the Southern Highlands NSW. . “It’s so rewarding to see how happy the dogs are as they are given the freedom to use their incredible noses, as they navigate through a search area. It’s also great to see the smile on people’s faces as they learn together with their dogs. Whether people choose to join training groups, trial, or simply enjoy time out and about with their dog/s, there is lots of fun to be had with this activity and great people to meet. As a student, I continue to learn with my own dogs and as an Instructor, I learn so much from the teams I coach”.

Alison has had a dog/s in the family for most of her life, starting with ‘Shandy’, the mixed breed terrier, joining her family in the early 70’s.Dogs Alison has loved, trained, and shared her life with over the years are ‘Trudy’ – the Golden Retriever; ‘Molly’ – Poodle x Tenterfield terrier; ‘Boadie’ – Bearded Collie and “Shortie-girl’ – Border collie x Beagle; who have now since passed.
Alison & her husband currently live with a ‘tribe’ of Bearded Collies and 2 cats. The beardies (and the tabby cat) are all at various stages/levels with the activity of Nose Work. “Each dog is unique in the way he/she approaches and handles a search. Their individual personalities, their ages (and also as they hit their golden years), keeps me on my toes”
